Vorfreude, positive Erwartungshaltung im Hinblick auf ein freudiges Ereignis. Die Adventszeit ( Advent) als Zeit der Erwartung des Weihnachtsfestes und der  Bescherung ist nicht nur für Kinder eine Zeit der Vorfreude. Der Volksmund sagt: „Vorfreude ist die beste Freude” – und bringt damit indirekt die Erfahrung zum Ausdruck, dass sie nicht selten die Freude beim Eintreffen des erwarteten Ereignisses an Intensität übertrifft. Ganz glatt geht die Gleichung übrigens nicht auf, denn sonst könnte ja auf den Anlass der Vorfreude (z. B. auf die   Bescherung) ganz verzichtet werden. Bekanntlich konkurriert mit der Vorfreude als beste oder schönste aller Freuden die Schadenfreude, die selbst in einer so auf Harmonie abzielenden Situation wie der Bescherung seltsame Blüten treiben kann, wenn etwa Geschwisterkinder unterm  Christbaum die erhaltenen  Geschenke vergleichen.

The Advent season ( Advent) as a time of anticipation of the Christmas celebrations and  Bescherung is not only a time of anticipation for children. Popular belief says: ”Anticipating joy is the best joy“ – and indirectly expresses the experience that it quite often exceeds the joy in intensity once the anticipated event occurs. The equation is not quite efficient, otherwise the anticipated event (e.g.   Bescherung) could be totally waived. The commonly known rival of anticipated joy as the best and most beautiful of all pleasures, is malicious pleasure, known as Schadenfreude in German, which can take on strange forms in a situation such as the Bescherung which is totally geared toward harmony, when for example siblings compare their gifts ( Geschenke) received underneath the Christmas tree ( Christbaum).
