Sternsingen, ein noch heute weit verbreiteter Brauch der katholischen Christen, bei dem am 6. Januar von Tür zu Tür ziehende Sternsinger um milde Gaben wie Kuchen, Nüsse oder Geld bitten, das Haus segnen und die jeweilige Jahreszahl samt den Initialen der Heiligen Drei Könige, C + M + B für Caspar, Melchior und Baltasar, mit geweihter Kreide auf den Türbalken schreiben. Zugleich stehen diese drei Buchstaben für den lat. Glückwunsch Christus Mansionem Benedicat, „Christus segne dieses Haus”. Heute und hier zu Lande sind die drei Sternsinger, die an diese Tradition anknüpfen, meist Kinder, die im Auftrag der katholischen Kirche nicht für sich, sondern für karitative Projekte in aller Welt vorzugsweise Geld sammeln. Damit sie dabei schnell weiter kommen, ist ihr Lied entsprechend kurz:

Ich bin ein kleiner König. Gib mir nicht zu wenig! Gib mir nicht zu viel mit dem Besenstiel!
