Kommet, ihr Hirten, dt. Weihnachtslied des Chordirigenten und Leipziger Musikprofessors Carl Riedel (* 1827 † 1888) zu einer von ihm bearbeiteten Melodie aus der böhmischen Volksmusik. Das heute wohl populärste einer unüberschaubaren Zahl von Hirtenliedern ( Hirten) im weihnachtlichen Liedgut.

(1) Kommet, ihr Hirten, ihr Männer und Fraun, kommet, das liebliche Kindlein zu schaun, Christus, der Herr, ist heute geboren, den Gott zum Heiland euch hat erkoren. Fürchtet euch nicht! (2) Lasset uns sehen in Bethlehems Stall, was uns verheißen der himmlische Schall. Was wir dort finden, lasset uns künden, lasset uns preisen in frommen Weisen: Halleluja! (3) Wahrlich, die Engel verkündigen heut' Bethlehems Hirtenvolk gar große Freud'. Nun soll es werden Frieden auf Erden, den Menschen allen ein Wohlgefallen: Ehre sei Gott!

Das Lied wird oft bei Krippenspielen dargeboten; dann singen die Hirten die zweite Strophe, die erste und dritte Strophe wird von der ganzen Gemeinde angestimmt.

The carol is often sung during nativity plays; the shepherds then sing the second verse, the entire congregation then joins in with the first and the third verse.
