Kerze, eine mit offener Flamme brennende Lichtquelle aus Talg, Bienenwachs, Stearin oder Paraffin. Kerzen sind in der Vorweihnachtszeit am Adventskranz völlig und an Heiligabend am Christbaum nahezu unentbehrlich und tragen mit ihrem warmen, natürlichen Licht, seit Erfindung der Duftkerze ( Duft) auch durch ihren Geruch maßgeblich zum erwünschten Aufkommen der Weihnachtsstimmung bei. Allerdings sind die mit ihrer Verwendung einhergehenden Gefahren ( Feuerwehr) nicht zu vernachlässigen, um Katastrophen vorzubeugen. Früher waren auch große Kerzen mit 24 Markierungen im Gebrauch, die Strich für Strich und Tag um Tag abgebrannt wurden und somit als besondere Form des  Adventskalenders anzusehen sind.
