Christbaumschmuck, Sammelbezeichnung für alle an den Zweigen des  Christbaums und an dessen Spitze befestigten Gegenstände. Anfänglich waren dies Äpfel, Nüsse,  Spekulatius und andere Leckereien als  Geschenke für brave Kinder. Zunehmend wurden diese von rein dekorativen Elementen abgelöst. Den Anfang machten 1660 die ersten  Kerzen. Justus Liebig aus Gablonz erfand 1870 die Kunst, Glaskörper von innen zu versilbern und wurde dadurch zum Vater der noch heute sehr beliebten, leider ( Katastrophe) auch sehr zerbrechlichen Christbaumkugeln und der traditionellen Christbaumspitze. An den  Stern von  Bethlehem erinnern Sterne aus Goldpapier ( Gold); auch Strohsterne sind weit verbreitet und sollen wohl an das Stroh erinnern, worauf das  Christkind in seiner  Krippe gebettet wurde. Schließlich ist das silberglänzende  Lametta eine schwer entbehrliche, wenngleich umstrittene ( Umweltschutz) Beigabe des Christbaumschmucks. Vielerorts krönt auch der  Rauschgoldengel den Christbaum.

Christmas tree decoration, collective term for objects attached to the branches of the Christmas tree ( Christbaum) and its treetop. Initially this included apples, nuts,  Spekulatius and other dainties as a gift ( Geschenk) for children behaving well. More and more, they have been replaced by genuinely decorative elements. The beginning was made in 1660 by the first candles ( Kerzen). Justus Liebig from Gablonz invented in 1870 the art of silver-plating glass items from the inside and thereby became the father of what even today are still highly popular, but unfortunately ( Katastrophe) also highly fragile Christmas tree balls and the traditional Christmas treetop. Stars made of gold paper ( Gold) are reminiscent of the star ( Stern) of  Bethlehem; and even stars made of hay are very popular and serve as a reminder of the hay on which the Christ-child ( Christkind) lay in his manger ( Krippe). On a final note, the silvery  lametta is a difficult to forgo although disputed ( Umweltschutz / environmental protection) addition to Christmas tree decoration. Many homes crown their Christmas tree with an angel ( Rauschgoldengel).
